Most Tajiks are delighted if you make an effort to learn their language, even if you only manage a few phrases.
For a short stay, you can get by with a phrasebook. See the bookshop for a list of dictionaries, phrasebooks and language courses in Tajiki and Russian.
The University of Washington's department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization offer courses in Intensive Elementary Tajik, but not every year. Check the
course catalogue to see when Tajiki will next be offered.
